Theft is a crime, whether it happens on line or in the streets. Creators cannot be expected to be the sole police force on line when corporate conglomerates with vast resources fail to do their part. Creators spend a good portion of their time chasing down and seeking removal of these websites. But, they need help from others such as payment processors, advertising networks, and search engines that direct the online community to illicit sites. Some people in Washington, DC agree that digital theft and illegal websites do not benefit artists in any way, and threaten the digital marketplace for everyone’s work. So, they are talking about ways to help.
